The mountains that run south from Yellowstone National Park comprise the largest tract of undeveloped land in the contiguous United States. Populations have settled and deserted the area surrounding the mountains over and over again in recent history, from the gold rush to the Cold War uranium boom to the current boom in natural gas, coal and fertilizer. I am intrigued by the intersection of wilderness and industry, and by the people who live in between them.
