Martha 2004

"I grew up in Firestone Plantation where the American people had a large rubber plantation. The people who work on the plantation had their own area, and they grow all kinds of vegetables.

Here, things are different. In Liberia there are only two seasons: rainy season and summer. Now plants die in winter and we plant them again the next year. Oh, we grow a lot of vegetables: potato greens, collard greens, okra, broccoli, eggplant. We eat everything we grow."

-Martha started gardening here four years ago. Her husband and her mother also have garden plots.
